Affirmation

Can we affirm ourselves today??? Can we be the ones “saying” what God says about us rather than believing what what people say about us….Can we identify ourselves with “who” God says we are ….rather than being defined by others!!!

We are NOT who people say we are…. People tend to define us according to what we do…the titles…Because of the “title” one can be “highly esteemed” and therefore treated with envy but also with honor; yet out of the “public glare” be “empty and unhappy” thus living a “double” life….

The best definition of who we truly are can only come from the one who created us….

To understand better we can “borrow” from what we “see” from the manufacturers of the products that we use daily ….Be it the vehicles we use to move from one place to another …to the products we use at home…be it soap…kitchen utensils etc…The first thing we note about these “products” is that they are branded and therefore we are able to distinguish the manufacturers… Secondly; they are created for specific purposes…the car is useful for transportation and cannot be used in the kitchen…. Likewise; the kitchen pan cannot be useful in the bathroom….That tells you that even God created us each for a different purpose…

He “branded” us differently/uniquely..but specifically….”Inside” of each one of us he “put” different gifts and talents and also capacity to learn and “acquire” new skills as well as harness what we already have….

With that said; it is therefore wrong for us to define ourselves or others depending on what we think or what we “see” (behavior)….Our behaviors are “shaped” by many factors including our experiences and environment…

Who are you???…For Jeremiah the Prophet God said….

Jeremiah 1:5…Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations ….

Jeremiah Assignment: When he came of age ….God told him…..

Jeremiah1:10…Today I appoint you to stand up against nations and Kingdoms…Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow…Others you must build up and plant…

This tells that we cannot be able to define ourselves or others when we don’t know who we are as well as our assignment….the purpose for which we were created….

In this regard; before we can “affirm” ourselves “appropriately” we must seek to know “who we are” …. according to God our creator….This therefore takes us to our “weekend assignment”….to ask ourselves this very important question….Are we “living” our lives and identified ourselves according to what God says; or who or what has defined us!!! As we reflect; we can “sing” and also “think through” the words of this song….Our freedom and our “rising” begins when we truly know who we are….This too is finding meaning in life and for life …
